About Robyn Lee

Robyn Lee Robyn Lee is the managing editor of Faith & Family magazine. She is (yikes!) an almost 30 year-old, single lady, living in Connecticut with her two cousins in a small bungalow-style kit house built by her great uncle in the 1950s. She also conveniently lives next door to her sister, brother-in-law and six kids ... and two doors down are her parents. She received her undergraduate degree from Christendom College in Philosophy with a minor in Theology and is currently preparing for her master’s comprehensive exams in dogmatic theology at Holy Apostles College. Besides her Faith and very close (literally) family, she loves spinning in the early a.m., drinking upside down caramel macchiatos, and snacking on chocolate all day long.

Tales from the DIY Diary: Part 3

It takes a family to beat the DIY monster.

Here is the final step for fixing your leaky faucet. If you haven’t already, read step one and step two and learn what not to do when tackling home projects.

Step three: Take the shiny exciting new faucet out of the box and install it. How hard could it be? This is the fun part!

Mom declares that she is going home because we should be able to take it from here.

30 seconds after mom leaves: “Mom I... READ MORE

Tales from the DIY Diary: Part 2

How many people does it take to unscrew a water hose?

Go read part one from my DIY (do it yourself) diary about installing a new faucet. I quickly learned that this DIY monster project was too fierce to tackle by myself and I needed help. With the Queen of DIY (my mom) and a couple of nephews in tow, we were ready to tackle step two.

Step two: remove the hoses from the faucet.

The hot water hose came off no problem. Sweet! Just like the video. This... READ MORE

Tales from the DIY Diary: Part 1

How hard can it be to replace a leaky faucet?

As a single gal with a fixer-upper there is an occasional house project that I have to tackle. Being far from handy, my way of getting it done is to hire Mr. Local Professional.

Why deal with all the frustration when Mr. Professional can come in and do it in no time?

I used this reasoning to avoid all do-it-yourself projects … until I realized that you need some serious cash to hire Mr. Local Professional.... READ MORE

Closet Performer

from singing in the shower to appearing on stage

I love to sing. I sing in the shower, I belt it out in the car and I even hum in the office.

I love driving with the windows down (with the music blaring) and singing at the top of my lungs. Sometimes on long car trips I put in a Broadway musical CD and pretend I’m the main character.

When I’m in my room listening to music from Oklahoma, Ragtime, Annie or any Broadway musical, I act out the part... READ MORE

Why I Love the Memorial Day Parade

I love my small town Memorial Day parade.

Every year our family walks up to the Route 10 parade route. We sit on the same hill every year ... and to be the honest, the parade is pretty much the same every year. But I still love it.

On our designated parade-watching spot, we spread out our blankets and wait for the parade to come. Aunt Karen hands out fun snacks and chocolate goodness to keep the kids... READ MORE

Summer 2010 issue is hot off the presses!

The Summer 2010 issues of Faith & Family magazine recently arrived in our offices. Opening the boxes of magazines always causes such a commotion. Everyone wants to have their own copy and browse through the gorgeous pages.

Even though I have read every page in the magazine already, I get excited to see the finished product. We edit pages with black and white copies, so it is always exciting to see... READ MORE

Why Was 6 Afraid of 7?

Math Game Giveaway!

Out of the Box Publishing recently came out with three new card games and boy was I excited to get review samples to try out for myself. Luckily I have a sister next door with six kids so there are plenty of opportunities to play games.

Last night my sister was having a party so I decided to bring the card game 7 Ate 9.

Kian (age 10) and Fiona (age 8) asked to play. We opened the tin case and started... READ MORE

Stage Fright

Overcoming Fears at a Local Talent Competition

I’m involved in a farmer’s club with my Mom and Aunt. I never go to meetings; my mom pays my dues; and the only things I do attend are the roast beef dinner (to eat) and the annual talent contest (because my mom made me go).

My mom is in charge of making sure there are entries for the A-number and talent portion of the contest so she usually asks my cousin Mary (another reluctant member) and me for... READ MORE

The Lost Toy

VeggieTales DVD giveaway!

Saturday night I had my nephews and niece come over to watch, Pistachio, the latest release from VeggieTales.

I knew it was a good choice when the opening song came on and Rory commented: “Oh yeah, I love this.”

Pistachio is the VeggieTales rendition of the fairytale Pinocchio.

The names of the characters crack me up.

Gelato is the lonely toymaker and his brother’s names are Espresso, Milano,... READ MORE

Made From Scratch

Gifts from your kitchen — wrapped with love

All year my mom spends precious time crocheting beautiful afghans, scarves, or doilies for a dear daughter or grandchild as a Christmas gift. Mom tried to teach me to crochet once, and the result was enough to teach me that maybe homemade “stuff” isn’t for me.

Yet, nothing beats the thoughtfulness of homemade gifts; they are the gateway into the heart of the giver. When you give a homemade gift,... READ MORE
