Ideally a Catholic’s obligation never to use contraception or be sterilized would be something discussed, understood and agreed upon before the couple was married—while there was still time to call off the wedding if it became obvious that remaining faithful to Church teaching and marrying this particular person would be incompatible.
It often happens, however, that people marry and one experiences... READ MORE

I imagine that most of you are familiar with Pope Paul VI’s authoritative teaching on the morally licit use of NFP to avoid pregnancy:
“With regard to physical, economic, psychological and social conditions, responsible parenthood is exercised by those who prudently and generously decide to have more children, and by those who, for serious reasons and with due respect to moral precepts, decide not... READ MORE
How Far is Too Far?

I wrote last time about the inseparable connection between the unitive and procreative aspects of sexual intercourse. When a couple needs to avoid pregnancy they must abstain from both aspects during potentially fertile times. But how may they express their love for each other during these times? NFP Can Work With Irregular Cycles
Faith and Family Live! | Posted by Sara Fox Peterson in Marriage on Monday, September 28, 2009
Unusually long, short or irregular cycles or amenorrhea (the absence of cycles) make NFP more challenging. But you already knew that, right?
Fortunately NFP does work just fine, regardless of how irregular your cycles are or whether you even have cycles, and it even works without requiring you to abstain four weeks out of the month.
Normal cycles can be anywhere from about 25 to 40 days long and... READ MORE
Hello! So Happy to be Here!

Hello! I am so very pleased to be blogging here for such an interested, thoughtful community—thanks for having me!
NFP is a fascinating intersection of biology (my college major and graduate degree) and theology (my college minor) and although I have been teaching, speaking and writing about it for going on a decade now, I have far from exhausted the topic. Because my space here is somewhat limited... READ MORE
