About Sarah Reinhard

Sarah Reinhard If Sarah Reinhard isn’t off hiding somewhere with a good book, chances are she’s chasing a toddler or a Jack Russell terrier (or sleeping, because every mom can use a nap!). She enjoys the idiosyncrasies of life in an old farmhouse in central Ohio with her husband and two daughters. Her “day job” is as secretary/administrator at her local parish, where she’s able to take her daughters to work with her. She is a weekly columnist at Catholic Exchange’s Today’s Catholic Woman. You can read her blog at snoringscholar.blogspot.com or follow her on Twitter.

Mary, Our Model of Chastity

She's the correction to our culture's misguided sense of sex and human relationships

Once, I asked our priest how Catholics can get good marital advice from celibate men.  Father’s response was that you don’t have to have an exact experience to help others with it.  Sometimes the best advice comes from someone outside a situation.  He reminded me that most priests are trained in counseling and that not all marriage counselors are married.  And besides, all people, married or single,... It All Starts With Mary in an Apron

taking care of all the miscellaneous things in our lives

You know, I’ve wondered why Mary doesn’t ever appear in apparitions wearing an apron.  Don’t think for a moment it’s because she didn’t own one.  OK, maybe aprons weren’t in use 2000 years ago.  (I’ll admit, right here, that I haven’t googled or researched.  This is just a reflection.)

But let’s pretend, for the sake of conversation, that Mary was among us now.  Let’s pretend we could see her.  Let’s... READ MORE

Mary Moments Carnival

A little shameless Mary promotion

You all may or may not know that I’ve been involved in a little project known as the Mary Moments Carnivals over the last two years.

Well, today, in honor of Mary’s month of May, I’m hosting a carnival over at my blog, and I’d like to invite you all to join me there.  If you have a blog, you can leave a link to your own post (feel free to dig in your archives), and if you don’t, you can leave your thoughts in the combox.

The theme for this Mary Moments Carnival is parenthood.  You don’t have to be a parent to have thoughts on Mary and parenthood, you know.

So come on over and join us.  It’s still May and however you have (or haven’t) honored Mary this month, you can be a part of the bouquet we’re preparing for her!

What Was It Like to Mother Jesus?

relating to Mary as a parent

My understanding and devotion to Mary really ripened when I had my first daughter.  I remember lying there in the hospital, the newborn sleeping in her little contraption, and taking up my rosary.  The mysteries that day were the Joyful Mysteries, and as I prayed them, using a little meditation book, I started crying.

I had never thought before about what it meant that Mary gave birth in a stable. ... READ MORE

How I Began to Know My Mother

A little about me and my devotion to Mary

Hello, Faith & Family readers!  It’s a pleasure to be guest blogging this week.  My topic will be Mary, and every day, I’m going to use a different topic as a jumping off point for a discussion of Mary.  I got my ideas for each day’s topics from the forums.

Now, for a confession:  I’m not an expert on Mary in the traditional sense.  I’m only a wife/mom/daughter who has learned to turn to Mary for... READ MORE
