10 Surprising Things About Me

and you (if you want to share)!

Over at her blog, Rachel shared some surprising things about herself and then tagged me to do likewise.

So, since I am stumped for blog material today, I figure I’ll indulge her.

1. I am an awesome jump roper. I totally dominated the grade school playground and I still enjoy jumping now and then.

2. My husband was my high school sweetheart. We even went to the prom together. He had braces, I had 80’s hair and a dress with a gigantic bow. We totally rocked it.

3. I am short. As in, 5 feet, 1 inch tall. I wear heels a lot. I have compensation issues.

4. I am a chronic library privilege abuser. I repeatedly say I am turning over a new leaf and that my late-return/lost-book days are over, but I always fall back into my old bad habits. The worst part is that, in the absence of late fees, it’s hard to conjure up an appropriate amount of guilt for my badness.

5. I never had braces and I have no cavities. I inherited my mom’s good teeth genes. It would appear that I have managed to pass this blessing on to only some of my children, though.

6. A teacup poodle resides at the place where I get my hair done, and I secretly covet this tiny pet. Which is weird because I am really not much of a dog person. It’s just that this dainty little thing is so small and cute and she walks around on her back legs—I think I am under the illusion that she’s a wind-up stuffed animal. I have always been a sucker for wind-up stuffed animals. But the kids always wind up breaking them, so I suppose this means the poodle is a bad idea.

7. I am an introvert (see Karen Edmisten’s feature article today). I can do the talking to people and socializing thing. I can do the flying somewhere and giving a presentation and talking to lots of people all day thing. But these things never fail to exhaust me.

8. I stay up late. What, that’s not surprising? Okay, how about this: Even if I stay up late, if I happen to wake up any time after about 4:30 am, I am done with that silly sleeping thing—up for the day.

9. I sometimes pretend to care about fitness and nutrition, but my personal all-time favorite “dinner” is an enormous plate of nachos and a Mike’s hard lemonade.

10. I love learning languages. I studied French and German through college and once dreamed of becoming an interpreter. I still think there is something just plain awesome about German declension. But then, I enjoyed diagramming sentences in junior high grammar class. So, you know what kind of illness you are dealing with here.

Now I’m supposed to tag new people with this meme, but I figure anyone who has bothered to read through this list deserves a tag. So now it’s your turn. Please share 10 surprising things about you in the comments or on your own blog and give us the link!
