40 Bags in 40 Days

Are you up for a Lenten challenge?

I was intrigued by the 40 Trash Bags in 40 Days Lenten challenge that made the rounds of Catholic mom blogs during Lent last year.

It’s a pretty simple concept: Just commit to ridding your home of 40 bags of “stuff” during the 40 days of Lent.

You can throw it away or give it away—garbage, clothing, toys, books, etc. You can pick the size of bag that makes the most sense for your circumstances—large garbage bags if you have a lot of clutter, smaller bags if you have less.

I don’t think the rules need to be hard and fast. Basically, the idea is to commit to 40 days of possibly uncomfortable “letting go.” A great way to observe Lent! (And no fair—Rachel’s got a head start on all of us!)

I’m in. Who else is?

If you’re ready to commit to the 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge, add your name here in the comments. I’ll post once a week during Lent and we can all report our progress and hold one another accountable.

Come on, you can do this!

I love this idea.It is good and innovative. It is very fresh for me.Thanks for your article

Well, here it is 2012, the start of another year.  One resolution of mine is to organize all my recipes. I started today and flipped one over to see a scribbled note on the back side.  Something about Lent, 40 bags in 40 days.  My sister suggested I do a web search to get more information. It was easy and here I am.  Anyone out there going to sign up for the challenge? Ash Wednesday is Feb. 22 this year. I’m in.

This is awesome!  I’m in!

I’m in!  Does it count that I got started today?  So far I eliminated 2 grocery bags of paper clutter smile

I am all in - 40 bags in 40 days!!

I am going to try!  I cleaned out three bathroom drawers tonight even before I saw this.  Maybe that is a sign?  Hope to remember to do it daily!

I usually do the Daniel fast but I ad not spriritually prepared myself for it but this is calling me!

Count me in!  Just heard about this last night and have already made my list of things/ places to clean out.

doing this again…this time dad is gonna check up on the rooms every sat at 3pm to make sure they stay clean all year round!

This challenge will require some extra garbage bags, so be sure to get some garbage bag coupons!
