Advent Vigil for Life

Advent begins on Sunday, November 28. As we know, it is a special time of waiting — a time for expectant faith, as we meditate and prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus, the Messiah.
It is a time to celebrate life. And the Holy Father has a special invitation for the faithful this year.
On Saturday, November 27, the evening before the first Sunday of Advent, Pope Benedict XVI is asking bishops, priests, and Catholics around the world to join him for a “Vigil for All Nascent Human Life.”
Feel like you rarely start Advent on the right note? Well, what a gift to begin our Advent 2010 journey with hearts focused on what matters — LIFE. We can celebrate together the life that grows in every expectant mother — as we ready ourselves anew for the Life that came into the world as our Savior.
It is powerful and emotional — often overwhelmingly so for me personally — to be part of the unity of people who know that life begins at conception and that there is inherent dignity in every soul. Knowing each of you is living this truth from deep in your heart gives me courage and hope to take on a new day. So, are you ready to respond to this challenge?
Where will you be on Saturday evening, November 27, 2010? I know my family will be with other families at a nearby parish who has taken Pope Benedict’s call seriously. I am grateful for that church community’s leadership in answering his invitation with a Yes. We will gather for Eucharistic adoration, evening prayer, Rosary, benediction, and prayers for life.
What about your own parish? Are they answering the call? There’s still time to add another Yes to the mix this Advent — in honor of Mary’s perfect Yes that brought us the Light of the World.
