Angels Everywhere

a sweet new book

Fans of prolific children’s author Tomie dePaola will be happy to learn that a new book is on the way!

My First Angels is the latest in Mr. dePaola’s My First series.  The book looks at the importance of remembering that angels are all around us, everywhere we go.

Do you have a favorite Tomie dePaola book? Around here we love his Book of Bible Stories. And The Popcorn Book. And who could forget The Clown of God.

Okay, I better just step away from the keyboard… your turn!

Our favorite by far is Adelita: a Mexican Cinderella Story.  DH and I make fools of ourselves trying to say the Spanish phrases and Spanish names!

My kids love the series of Strega Nona books. smile

We have My First Thanksgiving.  Very simple I suppose, but it’s one of the first books my two-year-old has learned how to read. and he learned how to make turkeys with his hands and tell me about what everyone is doing in the pictures with this book too.  Of course, he also peeled off the cardboard figures from the top of the book smile

He is one of my favorite children’s book authors period.  I love sooooo many of his books.  We love Pasquel’s Kitchen, The Legend of the Poinsettia, Las Posadas, His book about St. Patrick, All the Jamie O’Rourke books, The Legend of Fin McCoul, and I love, love, love, Now One Foot, Now the Other and Nana Upstairs, Nana Downstairs. (Be prepared to cry).

We read The Legend of Old Befana every Epiphany—it moves me every time.  And I already have Nana Upstairs, Nana Downstairs tucked away, because we will need it sooner than I would like.

We love him in our home too!  Especially Clown of God, The Holy Twins, and Pascual and the Kitchen Angels.  Oh, but they’re all so good!

This thread has me wondering—could there be a thread on good quality children’s literature (I know we’ve had them on here before), but with Christmas on the way I would love to be reminded of some good titles and learn about some new ones too!  Books are our gift of choice to our children!  Just an idea.  smile

Great idea! I’ll put something up next week.

We love “Pasual and the Kitchen Angels,” “Angels, Angels Everywhere” and “Legend of the Poinsettia.” Think I’ll have to get “Los Posadas” and “La Befana.”

The first Tomie de Paola book I ever read, was “Helga’s Dowry” . I was a teenager, and I saw it in a bookstore in 1980 and bought it for my niece.  When she grew up, the book was left behind at Grandma’s house, and I recently had the pleasure of retrieving it & wrapping it up to mail across the country for HER baby girl’s first birthday.
I also love his autobiographical books, especially “The New Baby” about his baby sister Maureen - it is just precious!

I love Tommie Depaola. Pasqual and the Kitchen Angels is my favorite picture book of his but my absolute favorite book he wrote was 26 Fairmont Avenue and the rest of his chapter book series.
