Are You a Group Fitness Fan?

If you noticed, many of us are writing about the snow and being stuck indoors. I have a normal tendency to hibernate in the winter, but this weather is even affecting my usual exercise routine.
I regularly wake up at 5:23 a.m. to get ready for the 6 a.m. group fitness class. I take a spinning class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a resistance weight-training class on Tuesday and Thursday.
Lately, however, I’ve been hitting the snooze, wrapping the warm blankets around me a little tighter, and sleeping in. (I’ve noticed it is much harder to wake up after breaking my regular routine. Dang you original sin!)
But you can never stay away from the gym too long.
Those die-hard regulars (who make it to the gym with ice skates or snowshoes) message you on facebook and invite you to come back.
With that invitation in mind, I dragged myself out of bed and actually made it to the 6 a.m. class. The die-hard regulars greeted me with a smile.
There are many ways to exercise. Many people like to work out by themselves, but I am definitely a group fitness fan.
I asked a friend if he wanted to try out spinning with me. He declined, and then asked, “isn’t spinning a bunch of people on stationary bikes with an instructor yelling at them?”
Maybe, but that’s not what it is like for me.
The women that I exercise with aren’t just strangers in a room, they are my motivation. They are my reason for getting out of bed at such an early hour.
We struggle together, we applaud each other, and we even cry together. It seems the instant my body is screaming at me to stop, the instructor lets out an encouraging cheer: “Yes, you can!”
Let’s encourage each other here to start or stay committed to an exercise routine (no matter how big or small it may be).
What is your motivation to exercise? Do you like working out by yourself or are you a group-fitness gal? How do you stay dedicated?
