Summer 2010 issue is hot off the presses!

The Summer 2010 issues of Faith & Family magazine recently arrived in our offices. Opening the boxes of magazines always causes such a commotion. Everyone wants to have their own copy and browse through the gorgeous pages.

Even though I have read every page in the magazine already, I get excited to see the finished product. We edit pages with black and white copies, so it is always exciting to see it in color.

Flipping through the pages, I thought I’d share some of the highlights from the Summer issue.

On the editor’s page there is a fun picture of Danielle Bean and Circle Press general manager, Claudia Volkman announcing the new Circle Press imprint: Faith & Family books.

We have a new page dedicated to FaithandFamilyLIVE.com. It is our goal to share with our print readers the goings on of FaithandFamilyLIVE.com and to invite them to come on over for a visit. We have a “meet the bloggers” section. This time we feature a short bio on Lisa Hendey (and her picture is just darling).

In our Family Mind Games section we pose questions to husbands and wives. Take the quiz to find out how well you know your spouse. I love the quiz section. Whenever I share the magazine with family and friends, the quiz is normally what they comment on first.

What I am most excited about in the Summer 2010 issue is the Insider page. I came to Danielle with the idea of a modest fashion feature. As we researched various items, we decided to do a summer theme and picked a beach outfit (and accessories) to feature on this page.

One afternoon, Juliette Bean and I browsed fashion websites for hours. We found a dress that would work well as a beach cover up. Once I had the main item it was easy to find accessories.

On the Insider page we feature a wide-brimmed hat, sandals, sunglasses, a beaded bracelet and a cooler bag. Lead designer, Lynne Hardt took all of the Insider products and drove up to our photographers house where they laid out all the items on the floor and surrounded it with sand to give it a true beach look. The product photo shoot turned out so amazing. Check it out on pages 22 and 23.

Other highlights in the magazine are Susie Lloyd’s piece on how to plan (and enjoy) your next family reunion. Perfect to help you prepare for any big family event this summer.

I absolutely love the artwork that was chosen for Danielle Bean’s “Chore Wars” article. This article not only gives practical tips to tackle your household duties, but the humor reminds us not to sweat the small stuff.

I guess I’m a little biased, but I loved reading Maryan Vander Woude’s article on Aesop’s Fables. Reading the article made me realize that I am a living example of the hare in the story “The Tortoise and the Hare.” Instead of slow and steady wins the race I am running around like a stress ball trying to get everything done. I should take some lessons from Aesop.

The Summer 2010 issue also includes the Year for Priests writing contest winners. I had the privilege to call the parents of the winners and runners-up. It was such a blessing to bring such joy and excitement to the winners. After making all the calls I reflected on how cool my job is.

Don’t miss the two celebs we have in the magazine. We feature Power Ranger Jessica Rey in the My Faith & Family section and Father Leo Patalinghug from Grace Before Meals in the What’s Cooking section. Be sure to check out Fr. Leo’s recipes. Delish.

Well, I could go on and on about the rest of the issue, but those were some of my favs. What were some of your favorite articles? I’d love to hear your feedback!
