Hiya chickadees!
Can you believe we’re a mere week away from Christmas? I still have so much left to do! I’m not complaining, though. I promise. There’s something about the rushing around that is part and parcel of this upcoming week that fills me with giddy anticipation.
This week I’m sharing three of my favorite fashion/charm themed books for benefit of those of you who, like me, are still working on your Christmas gift shopping.
One caveat: I don’t agree with every single word written in these books. I did find them all to be entertaining, helpful and worthy of recommendation, though. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Better than Beauty: A Guide to Charm
First published in 1938, this delightful handbook is overflowing with timeless advice to guide readers through a maze of social interactions with wit and grace. More than an etiquette or personal grooming book, Better than Beauty tackles complicated social situations with delicacy: • How to be kind to atrocious people • How to avoid the gossip mill • How many drinks is too many drinks • How to deflect unwanted advances from married men • How much to tip • And much, much more…
Wife Dressing: The Fine Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife
Nearly fifty years after its initial publication, much of this classic original text of the 1950s is as every bit as practical, humorous, and helpful today as it was then…Complete with checklists that help chart a wardrobe plan and indispensable tips on everything from traveling to entertaining, this authoritative guide will strengthen every fashion I.Q. and aid in the search for the elusive quality of “chic.” WIFE DRESSING includes helpful suggestions for avoiding fashion traps, wise spending, and even has quick remedies for banishing the “haven’t-got-a-thing-to-wear mood,” providing all the while that there is indeed a fine—and perhaps lost—art to looking good for every occasion.
In this humorous handbook, Shellie Rushing Tomlinson, host of All Things Southern, reveals the all-important lessons Southern Mamas teach their daughters. Readers will discover why blue eye shadow is trashy and learn to interpret regional dialect like the Southern Mama APB ... Shellie carefully breaks down the teachings behind those famous manners and social graces through her firsthand observations and dry wit. Here’s everything you need to know from how to cope with the unexpected, compete in the Mr. Right Game Show, and raise children—to how to keep that marriage knot tied tight over time.
Have a blessed last week of Advent and a joyful Christmas, friends! You will all be in my prayers.
