Better Than Ice Cream

Deliciousness, from your freezer

This pretty little pint caught my eye in the supermarket freezer the other day.

It’s not ice cream, it’s gelato. I’ve never been to Italy, but with this available in my freezer, I’m thinking why bother?

Just kidding. But this stuff is delicious. It’s a little bit pricey (I paid $4.99 per pint), but I am now the proud owner of a pint each of Double Dark Chocolate and Caribbean Coconut that are reserved FOR GROWN-UPS ONLY in my freezer. One small scoop of each is a perfect pairing that makes me happier than a whole bowlful of that stuff the kids love ever could.

How about you? What’s your favorite warm weather treat so far this summer?

I’m a big fan of gelato. There are a few restaurants ‘round here that offer it but it can be pricey. It just seems so smooth compared to ice cream.

Sounds delicious!  My vote would go to iced coffee & the summertime classic—chilled, seeded watermelon.  :o)

WOW!  Danielle Bean has never been to Italy!  I find that shocking and awful.  Surely someone around here has some contacts to get her on a pilgrimage!
I love gelato, and enjoyed it as often as we came across a gelato cart when in Italy.  I have yet to find a true replica here in the states, but where I live that is not at all surprising.  It is very yummy stuff!

I’ve never had it, but would love to try it.  (And, I would love to go to Italy someday, too.)
This weekend I had a coffee milkshake from Friendly’s, and a coffee softserve cone with a chocolate dip from an awesome ice cream place in our town.

I say a Faith and Family pilgrimage to Italy is in order.

My favorite summer treat is sitting with my feet in the kiddie pool drinking ice cold homemade lemonade made by my kids.

A Faith and Family pilgrimage to Italy sounds like a SUPER idea!  I went with my daughter and son to Rome and Assisi last year… and it only made me want to go again.  Danielle, you will have to work on this!

When this brand of gelato goes BOGO at my grocery store - I stock up.  It’s fantastic - and has comforted me through many rough pregnancy days!  smile

Gelato seems to be the new in thing where I live. There are a few gelato shops downtown that do a yummy job of it, even Costco sells it at their $1.50 cafe. Gelato is good but my favorite summer treat since I was a little girl has always been Italian Ices in strawberry or pineapple.

We have a few gelato shops downtown that make a yummy treat. Our local Costco sells it at their $1.50 cafe too, although it isn’t as good as the shops downtown. Gelato is good but my favorite summer treat since I was a little girl has always been Italian Ices in strawberry or pineapple.

I have to look for this! But nothing is like the stuff in Italy!

Oooh, Danielle, you must try the Roman Raspberry!! I have been to Italy, and it is mighty fine indeed.

Also, you gotta—gotta—get to Rome.  As Lonely Planet puts it, “nowhere else even comes close.”  Hey, you’re a homeschooley girl, go off-season, it’s better!

That is GOOOOOOOOOD stuff!!!
