Between You & Me God is truly a sweet little book.
This collection of prayers written by Catholic kids and edited by Diane Lynch (who also edited Mom to Mom and did a fantabulous job, not that I’m biased or anything) is a quick and inspiring read.
In these pages, Catholic kids in grades 5-8 share their hearts as only kids can—completely and openly.
Some entries will make you smile: “Dear God, I usually try my best on everything. But sometimes I get bored, tired, or just don’t want to do whatever it is. Even though I can’t do anything, I should at least try.”—Mary, age 11
And some entries will make your heart ache: “In my life, my parents are not together. It’s just a little tough for me, because I have to switch from place to place. I can feel just a pinch of hurt ...”—Resseka, age 10
There is a section at the back of the book of children’s prayers to saints as well as a nice collection of traditional prayers and instructions for saying the Rosary.
Between You & Me God can inspire young readers who struggle with prayer. Young people who don’t know where to start or how to talk with God will find ample examples in this little volume.
Grown ups who read Between You & Me God will come away encouraged and inspired to share with God their innermost thoughts, feelings, worries, gratitude, and dilemmas—a great step toward embracing a more childlike faith—exactly the kind that Christ calls us to have.
