Body Scans and My Fear of Flying
Posted by AGroup in Family on Monday, January 17, 2011 11:46 AM
This Friday will find me flying across the country to sunny California with an infant in tow. Though I’ve flown with infants many times before, this trip has me feeling a bit more daunted than usual.
Every time I turn around, it seems someone has another horror story to tell about the new security measures they faced at the airport. Have any of you flown with children lately? Maybe you can help me answer a few questions ...
1) Are the new full body scanners safe for babies? I know the government says they are. Do you agree? I’m not so sure I do.
2) My daughter has to be supplemented with formula. Does anyone know what the rules are regarding essential liquids that are over 3.4 ounces? Will they want to x-ray her bottles? If so, do you think that will that harm her formula in any way? Maybe I should buy a box of these.
3) Confession: I have a tiny little fear of flying. Do any of you who share my objection to hurtling through the air in a tin can thousands of miles above solid ground have any advice? What do you do to calm your nerves?
4) Do you have any other tips to share with me? I’m all ears!
If you happen to think of it this coming Friday, please say a prayer for me and my family! I’ll be sure to keep all of you and your intentions in mine.
Thanks so much, ladies!
