Book Bash!

As Danielle and Rachel can probably tell you, living out the dream of writing and publishing your first book is an amazing ride. My book came out in February, and I still get a giddy sensation every time I have a book-related experience. It’s so bad that a few weeks ago, I saw someone at a conference walking through a hallway with my book tucked under his arm, and I literally had to restrain myself from going up and thanking him for buying it! Honestly, I don’t think that sense of joy will ever get old - but I sincerely doubt that Scott Hahn or Patrick Madrid were ever as goofy over the whole thing as I am.
So last night was one of my favorite evenings since the release of The Handbook for Catholic Moms. Through the beauty of Facebook, I connected with a lovely online friend named Mary from Minnesota. Mary and her fellow book club members had selected my book for their July meeting. Brainstorming online, we devised the plan for me to attend their book club meeting via Skype. Group member Lynn was tech savvy enough to get my Skype video shot onto her home television, so the gals and I spent a good bit of time discussing the book, getting to know one another, and just generally enjoying being Catholic moms together. We are now offering a set of free discussion questions to assist book clubs, women’s groups or individual study. But honestly these Minnesota moms are such book club pros that they didn’t really need any prompts.
I don’t know if and when I’ll have the chance to meet Mary, Lynn, or the rest of the moms in person. But after chatting together online I honestly feel like I have a whole new band of soul sisters. Once again, it’s confirmation for me that the power of the Internet to draw hearts and souls closer to God and to one another is alive and well. We just need to harness that power to lift one another up in the spirit!
So thank you to my new soul sisters in Minnesota. And for any other moms who would like to chat some time soon about books, our faith, or family topics, I’d love to hear from you!
