Daily Lenten Meditations

«  March 2010  »

Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
  • Pray Light a candle. Every time you pass that candle today, offer a prayer of thanks. Don’t ask for anything. Just thank him.
  • Fast Don’t cut corners. Even if no one will know, complete today’s work thoroughly.
  • Give Touch is a powerful thing. Make an effort today to touch your children: a hug, a shoulder rub, a tousled head -- especially the bigger ones
1
  • Pray Make five minutes in the morning, at midday and in the evening to be still, silent, and alone, only asking God to infuse your soul with his will.
  • Fast No noise today. Turn off the TV, the radio, the iPod. Find God in the silence.
  • Give Pay particular unsolicited attention to your least demanding child today.
2
  • Pray Begin a gratitude journal. At the end of the day, jot down five things for which you are grateful. Think upon these things.
  • Fast Remember the first time you had a moment alone with your first child. What did you promise him? Do that. Be that.
  • Give We can only expect what we inspect. For every task you assign today, follow through and before it’s truly finished ensure that there is praise from you.
3
  • Pray “My sheep listen to my voice. I know them and they follow me." -- John 10:27
  • Fast Every time a child interrupts you today, stop what you are doing and look into his eyes as he talks.
  • Give “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” -- Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Speak kindly all day long.
4
  • Pray Ask God to show you how weak and small you are. Open your heart to see it.
  • Fast Don’t argue today. As much as possible give up, give in, give way.
  • Give When you are tempted to put on the TV for kids today, pull out a stack of favorite picture books instead. Invite the kids to join you on the couch.
5
  • Pray Take a walk, even if it’s cold or raining. Leave your iPod at home.
  • Fast Think of someone whose life you are tempted to envy and then choke out these words: Thank you, God, for the blessings you have given to X. Help me to see my own.
  • Give Think about the kind of person your husband married. Be that person for him today.
6
7
  • Pray "Love consumes us only in the measure of our self-surrender." -- St. Therese of Lisieux
  • Fast As you go about your daily routine today, remember that you are expecting someone very important for dinner tonight. Together with your children, work towards your husband’s homecoming as if you were expecting to welcome a king back to his castle.
  • Give “You can do nothing with children unless you win their confidence and love by bringing them into touch with oneself, by breaking through all the hindrances that keep them at a distance. We must accommodate ourselves to their tastes, we must make ourselves like them.” -- St. John Bosco
8
  • Pray Take this quote to prayer today and listen to God’s answer: “Real love is demanding. I would fail in my mission if I did not tell you so. Love demands a personal commitment to the will of God.” -- John Paul II
  • Fast Stop looking for encouragement and approval. Genuinely encourage and affirm someone else instead.
  • Give Let your child choose a huge stack of picture books (use that word “huge” when you ask her to gather them). Read them all to her today.
9
  • Pray Persevere. “He who does not give up prayer cannot possibly continue to offend God habitually. Either he will give up prayer, or he will give up sinning.” -- St. Alphonsus Liguori
  • Fast Don’t forget that the only pedestal you need ever stand on, is the one your husband and children build for you.
  • Give Focus on your home today. The world can find another volunteer, but your husband and children have only you.
10
  • Pray Insist on quiet from all your children during naptime today. Pray the Divine Mercy chaplet.
  • Fast We’re half way through. Compare yourself now only to yourself when Lent began. Tweak the plan.
  • Give Reach out to a local friend today. Reconnect.
11
  • Pray Ask God to make you humble and lowly.
  • Fast Don’t compare or complain. Do compliment.
  • Give Pack a picnic and go somewhere to eat it with your children. If the weather is prohibitive, build a tent in the living room and it eat there. Sit on the ground with them. Be fully present.

Truthfully - though they are all great titles… I don’t see a winner yet? How about you?

Please select one of the titles - and lets see what happens.

My computer is still not fixed - who knows how long at this point. Is God trying to tell me something?

All last week I couldn’t even get on the internet.  Hmmmmm?

This week I can get on the internet with this little notebook but our community has been invited to share retreat time with other Franciscan women in our area with Fr. Joe Chinnici, ofm. - so computer time has been zeroed out again.

So I ask you…. even as dull witted as I can be… is God is trying to tell me something?

Will keep you posted.

My title vote is for I have called you, You are mine

Isn’t #8 & 10 the same??

Coming Home: Journeys of Faith

HomeComing: Journeys of Faith

Is God trying to tell you something?  That’s up to you.

My vote is for: (6)  I have Called You, You are Mine.

how about this:  “101 Stories of Renewed Faith”

I like #9 Catholic, why they left and why the returned.

My vote:
Coming Home: Journey of Faith

HI

I have called You; You are Mine

My vote: Coming Home-Journey of Faith, but I really don’t think the best title has been suggested yet.

I like number six the best.

Regarding number two, I am not sure, but isn’t the apostrophe poor grammar in that case? There isn’t one in three or twelve, so maybe it was just a typo?

How Sweet It Is….
    Home Sweet Home

Coming Home; Journey of Faith
I’m looking forward to the book!

I would combine numbers one and three into: 101 Stories of Coming Home: Remarkable Journeys of Faith

Sr.Pat, This is still my fav.

101 Stories of Faith Renewed

Dan Coyle Sr.

I would like to suggest No. 2 as title: “Journeys of Faith”

God bless your book and all your efforts to spread the Good News.

You are right, Sister Pat.  It is a tough choice.  How about combining #3 and #1: “Coming Home: 101 Stories of Faith Renewed.”

Perhaps God is trying to tell you to stay off the computer and get some sleep!

Love and Blessings,
June St. James-Pfouts

I like the name ~~  :“Welcome Home”  ~~
that says it all !!

I change that ~~ forget my first vote !!
I vote for ~~

“I have called you, you are mine”

I can’t wait to read it!!

As I think of my journeys sampling the excitments of the other faiths, I was always surprised that I could find “it” in the Catholic faith. Not as loud. Just always enduringly quietly present.

I think I would call the book.“There’s no place like home”

Smiles!

for the book tittle, I choose : coming home -remarkable journeys of faith.

my kids are grown.  4 boys 29-23 You yell fie too many times no one listens.  face to face talking and have them say what you told them to make sure they heard what you said at least gets communication working.  It took a long time for me to realize that when they heard “go study” they understood “play by yourself”.

Sorry that was supposed to go under the poll site.

Some great suggestions but I prefer ‘Journey’s of Faith as all our lives are journeys and are great if we have faith. This title would encompass all faiths. No 3 & 8 are similar. Great work Sister Pat.

My favorite title is:
“Catholic; Why They Left the Faith, Why They Returned”
because it most clearly states what is in the book.

I agree, the best title isn’t in yet. The titles are too long,
and maybe shouldn’t have the word Catholic in it. I like something short like, “Finding Home Again.”
Do you have a target audience? I have been in jail ministry for
eleven years. We always get a mixed group of people who come
to our Bible study; some are Catholic and many have left the faith for other denominations. My experience is that detention facilities are anti-Catholic. My aim is to lead them back to the
Faith of their fathers. “Faith of Our Fathers.”

My vote is for “Father - I’m Home!”

I have called you youare mine Gets my vote

#1 & #3 combined

I vote for #2 - Journeys of Faith
( the one listed has an apostrophe - Journey’s) will the meaning be different? I’m not sure which is correct grammatically - a job of the editor perhaps.
I know some authors who changed the title of the book after the contents have been edited and just before it was finally printed as per suggestion of the editor/publisher..so I pray that the title won’t delay much of the creative work for the contents at this point. Sometimes the spark of inspiration comes immediately before the book sees it final print.
About combining the title with words Coming Home or Homecoming- I have read a book with similar title which is about preparation for death so personally it may not be your purpose for writing the book you have in mind.

My vote is for 3. Coming Home: Remarkable Journeys of Faith

I would keep it simple and also like the titles of the previous books.
My suggestion - and a new one ....

101 Stories of Faith

My vote is for #1—doesn’t that keep it in line with your other titles?

And, Sister, I think either God is trying to tell you something (show you something offline, perhaps?) or the devil is trying to make things difficult…I’ll pray for you.  Perhaps the title is something to be discerned in your community?

The books I would vote for are #one and# four

I think you are right, the best title has not appeared yet.

I like :
101 Stories of Returning Home to the Catholic Faith

I’m not saying that is the best, but it’s what I like.

My vote is for #1 - 101 Stories of Faith.

Thank you Sister for everything you do for your people.  “That’s including me. smile

My favorite is Father-I’m Home

Hope your computer gets fixed soon, I miss your daily posts.

My vote is Coming Home: Journey of Faith

I really like:
101 Stories of Faith Renewed.
Satan will always try to stop the work of God.
Keep up the great work ! ME

I can’t say any of them hit me as good titles. Only two even mention the fact that the book is about CATHOLIC faith journeys. Of these two, number 4 MIGHT be the better, but it doesn’t really give a good feel for the focus of the book. You might want to start fresh.

101 stories of faith renewed

That gets my vote

I am choosing title #1.

I choose 101 Stories of Faith Renewed

My vote in round 2:
3. Coming Home: Remarkable Journeys of Faith

The 101 stories (or other #) needs to be in the title.  But the title listed doesn’t quite hit it.  Maybe a combination like 101 stories of journeys home ( or something to that effect).

H I still like Welcome Home.  God Blessyou in all you do!

No matter how far or how long we run we know deep inside that God has said #6 ” I Have Called You; You Are MIne ” and we know that we must need to return to him.

My vote is for #6 ” I Have Called You; You Are MIne “

Thank you Sister for allowing us to help pick out the title for this wonderful book.

Coming Home:  Journeys of Faith

For the book I think I like:

The return home: journey of faith

#1 -101 Stories of Faith Renewed . It just seems to fit. All of the 101 series are great . The titles being the same sort of bind them so that people who love one can recognize others

#3 Coming Home: Remarkable Journeys of Faith

Number 3 is my vote…..Coming Home - Remarkable Journeys of Faith

Just an aside…...I find it very annoying when I click on the comment section in your column and first it goes to A. Weber communciations page…when I close and begin again it goes directly to where you are sending me.  That A. Weber ad drives me crazy!!!!

Father , I’m Home! ~ 101 Journeys of Renewed Faith
or
Welcome Home! ~ 101 Journeys of Renewed Faith

I like the word Journeys instead of Stories for this book.

Thank you Sr Pat for all you do and God bless you!
