Bountiful Baskets

I’m not sure how the tradition was started, but every year the Easter bunny tends to bring two new boys’ bathing suits with the jelly beans and plastic eggs. I remember when the suits were small enough to fold into a palm sized square. Now, they are man-sized, but still a traditional reminder that with Easter comes Spring weather and more time outside.
Different families have different ways of handling the Easter morning celebration. In my home growing up, we had a fun time working together to find plastic eggs filled with treats. The eggs would then be emptied into a communal bowl, with enough chocolate and sugar to supply a family of seven for at least a few weeks. Easter was more about Mass and the spiritual celebration, but there were always baskets filled with fun trinkets my mom had been collecting months in advance.
How creative is the Easter bunny around your home? Catholic families can enjoy all kinds of wonderful treats, including great books like this series by Heidi Bratton, holy cards, saint medals, or children’s DVDs. Do you have a traditional basket item that pops up year after year like our bathing suits? Have you done away with baskets altogether in favor of a more spiritual approach, or does the Bunny just stick to the basics around your house?
