Catholic Media Promotion Day

Mark your calendar for March 15!

This morning, I was happily driving home from taking Adam to school while listening to my friends Greg and Jennifer Willits chat on their radio show The Catholics Next Door.  I love their banter, their friendship, and their energy for the faith.  So when I heard Greg “tease” a new idea he was planning just as I was pulling into the garage, I simply couldn’t walk away and quit listening.  I only have their station in my car, so I sat and waited.

Well, my wait was worth the effort.  Greg shared his vision for a universal “Catholic Media Promotion Day”, a one day effort to encourage consumption and production of Catholic media initiatives.  He’s already set up a Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/promotecatholicism, so now it’s our job to help spread the word.  Here’s the blueprint:

On March 15, 2011, everyone with a blog, podcast, or Facebook page should list their favorite 3 blogs, 3 podcasts, 3 other media, 3 random Catholic things online, and their own projects.  Then, post the link to your list here on March 15th. Additionally, to help get the word out, press are asked to write articles and press releases for this day. Lastly, on March 15th, go to iTunes and leave at least 3 positive written reviews for various Catholic podcasts and 3 positive written reviews for Catholic mobile applications.

So your job is simple.  If you’re a blogger, a Facebook fanatic, a terrific Twitter-er, or simply have a home telephone and a few friends, you can help us spread the word.  I’ve “signed on” by liking the Facebook page and will be doing my best in the next week to help generate some buzz about this initiative.  Why?  Because I know how many hard working folks are creating great Catholic media, and how few of the people we share our pews with even know about those efforts.

Think about this: if every mom at your parish made a visit even once per week to Faithandfamilylive.com, how blessed would the families of your parish be as a result? If each of them could also listen to a great Catholic podcast, discover a faithfilled app on their smartphone, or watch quality Catholic television programming, how blessed would our Church as a whole be?

So for the next week, I hope you’ll join me in liking Catholic Media Promotion Day, in blogging about it, sharing it and helping in general to spread the word.  And on the 15th, I hope we’ll all participate and send our Catholic media products to the highest rankings possible.  Not out of vanity or self-promotion, but because these tools help draw our hearts and minds closer to God.

Will you join us?  If so, please like the Facebook page and leave a comment below sharing how you might help spread the word.
