Catholic Radio

A great resource, easy to access

Lisa’s review of Teresa Tomeo’s new book has me ready to go out and buy it.  I love Teresa Tomeo - her show is great and she herself is an inspiration.

We live within easy broadcast range of Ave Maria Radio, which produces Teresa Tomeo’s show, along with Al Kresta’s and a host of other wonderful Catholic programs.  These shows are syndicated on many Catholic radio stations across the nation.  Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to have Catholic radio nearby.

The good news is, you can listen to Catholic radio online!  Ave Maria Radio broadcasts live on their website around the clock.  They also have an audio archive of a few of their shows.  I imagine the archive would be especially helpful for West Coasters, for whom Teresa Tomeo’s show (8-10am EST) broadcasts at an extremely early hour.

Ave Maria has two great parenting shows, Heart, Mind & Strength with Greg and Lisa Popcak, and The Doctor is in with Dr. Ray Guarendi and Coleen Mast alternately.  Both of them are inspirational and quite entertaining at times, and I get a lot out of listening to them.  Both shows are archived at the link above, and the Popcaks also archive their recent shows as podcasts on their own website.

Last but certainly not least is a show that is not an Ave Maria show, although our local station broadcasts it: Catholic Answers LIVE.  If you love apologetics - as I do - or simply feel you should know more about apologetics, this is the show for you.  It’s produced by Karl Keating’s excellent apologetics group Catholic Answers (if you’re not using their website, catholic.com, as a resource, you should be).  The LIVE website has the full archive of all the shows recorded since January 2006.  They’re downloadable so you can listen to them any time.

As you can see, you don’t need a Catholic radio station nearby to have access to Catholic radio shows.  Anyone with Internet access can get them, and they can enrich your life considerably.  If you haven’t checked out Catholic radio, give it a try!
