Catholic Vitamins

A dose of something that's good for you... and fun too!

Every once in a while, you have the chance to meet someone who changes your life for the better.  You may not recognize it at the exact moment it happens, but in retrospect you can look back and realize that the instant that person came into your life, things changed for the better.

I wish I could tell you the date it happened, the date Deacon Tom Fox came into my life, but I sadly I can’t.  What’s important though is that for the past three plus years, this gentle, humble man has been a quiet, but giant force in my life.  And then to add to the joy, I’ve developed a wonderful relationship with Deacon Tom’s lovely wife Dee.  Both have been cheerleaders for my work, consultants when I faced forks in the road, and most especially tireless prayer warriors.

Tom and Dee have prayed me through book proposals and writing deadlines, health “situations”, and family joys and heartaches—all with a quiet and loving presence that always feels like a warm hug.  Deacon Tom has shared his inspirational brand of writing on CatholicMom.com and has been a major part of my Catholic Moments podcast family.  His talents, his way of saying things, and his character shine through in everything he does.

Now, Dee and Tom are the hosts of their own show, “Catholic Vitamins”, which has been a favorite podcast of mine for over a year.  In the past thirteen months, they’ve interviewed so many guests, educated us on the faith, and shared their personal relationship with their listeners.  Having role models like Dee and Tom is good for me - in a world where we see marriages crumbling and faith cast to the side so frequently, they are evidence that keeping Christ at the center of your marriage, and of your lives, gives you the fuel you need to endure life’s challenges.

Tom and Dee make me smile, normally through their online banter and the email conversations, Facebook status updates, and tweets we share with one another. But yesterday I had the treat of spending a few great hours with my favorite online deacon and his wife over lunch - “in real life”!  Our chat left me wanting more, but was a dose of energy I need for the work that is in my path right now.  As they drove off on the next leg of their adventure, I found myself wishing we could “do lunch” once a week.

The good news is that through their podcast, we can all have a little dose of Deacon Tom and Dee in our lives.  If you’re not yet subscribed to Catholic Vitamins, I hope you’ll take some time this week to subscribe and to listen.  Their most recent episode features a conversation with a pro-life advocate that will amaze you.

Deacon Tom is everything you’d hope to find in someone who has committed his life to the permanent diaconate.  Dee is proof that the vocation extends to and is supported by a caring, committed spouse.  They are an amazing team - I feel blessed to call them my friends!
