Celebrating Homeschooling Too!

At Adam’s school and other Catholic schools across the country, we are celebrating “Catholic Schools Week” this week. The theme is “Catholic Schools Celebrate Service” and the emphasis at our school has been on community service and being good citizens.
Our school principal shared the following goal for Catholic Schools Week:
It is a week long celebration to recognize the valuable contributions that Catholic Schools have made to the communities they serve. Catholic School’s Week is a time to reaffirm the spiritual value of all of our children in the eyes of God…to recognize parents for their sacrifices on behalf of their children’s education… and to acknowledge teachers, and staff in Catholic Schools for their loving dedication and professionalism.
Today, I spent time checking out the latest poll Danielle has posted here on Faith and Family Live! If you glance at the results, you will see that among our readers here, a vast number of families either homeschool or supplement regular schooling with homeschool efforts. I’ve always had a profound respect for homeschooling families, even though I have never homeschooled full time myself.
Which left me with this question: Is there a “Homeschool Week”? Honestly, I would love to know if there is an organized effort around the country to spread the good word about homeschooling and its impact on families and communities. Here in California, homeschooling families are prevalent but I’ve never heard of an organized celebration of homeschooling.
Since we have so many homeschooling families here, I would love to hear from you on this topic and to allow you a forum this week also to “celebrate”! Also, for those in Catholic Schools around the country, how does your school observe this week? Our kids have been working on special projects and the week culminates with Open House tonight and a special Mass tomorrow. How are you celebrating the beauty of Catholic education, either in the home, a school, or a parish setting?
