Christmas Crunch

This year, Christmas falls on a Friday, meaning that for many working moms, next week is the last full week of work of 2009. I’m noticing with my own personal workflow that things seem to be at an almost frenetic pace, as people take advantage of the lingering working days of December to make a dent in the work that needs to be done. Productivity will likely drop off dramatically the week of Christmas, so that leaves about five more working days to really get things done this year.
Do you find yourself in this situation? I know my sister Erin, a partner in her law firm, experiences her busiest season of the year in the last few days of December. This makes it a particularly stressful time as she entertains guests in her home, makes Christmas special for her children, and has to be at the top of her game professionally. Somehow she manages, but I know that it’s a true balancing act!
Will these last few weeks of December be quiet or “crunch time” for you professionally? How busy will your employer expect you to be as the holiday fever sets in? Is your business retail oriented and if so, has this season been successful economically for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts on how the work/life balance will look for you as we wind down Advent and head into holiday mode.
