Crafting Can Be Fun!

Tonight I’m meeting with some neighbor ladies to work on crafts for an upcoming Christmas festival. Is this your cup of tea? It’s not mine!
I go to these crafting gatherings with low expectations (for myself). They aren’t my favorite, but that doesn’t mean it has to be painful. In fact, over the last few years, I have learned that I should have two goals at a gathering where arts and crafts is the focus. One, I follow directions and two, I have fun.
It’s an important life lesson to figure out how to have a good time even when doing less-than-your-favorite activities. For years I would detest any kind of gathering that involved the making of anything—crafts just aren’t my thing. That’s what I’d tell myself anyway. I was usually tempted to skip the gathering altogether, but I knew that was silly. That would be letting crafting get the better of me, which is worse than being a bad crafter.
It’s true I don’t tend to produce the grandest of homemade items, but I often go away from a crafty gathering feeling good. Sure it isn’t my first choice, but it’s a good learning experience—trying something new, and something out of our comfort zone, can be very good for us. The perfectionist in me wants only to do the things that I’m good at. The pioneer in me knows this is a silly way to live.
So off to the craft meeting I go, where we will paint and create. I might be out of my realm, but that’s okay. It will be fun and hopefully (the good Lord willing), I’ll produce something salvageable.
