Decorating Dud

They are springing up all around me in my neighborhood ... twinkly lights, inflatable yard art, and even a bit of fake snow. And here I am, just settling into the first week of Advent. In honesty, I must admit that I have yet to unearth the box that contains my Advent “stuff”, so we’ve made do by lighting a single candle on the kitchen table for the past few days. No greenery yet, simply a bright flame symbolizing the sacred waiting that fills our hearts.
Meanwhile, my mailbox has already received a few Christmas cards from those uber-organized friends of mine who likely had them done the first week of November. Mine are still in the conceptual phase - I likely won’t get them out until the week of Christmas, or perhaps even during one of those “twelve days”! My decorating will not begin in earnest for a few weeks, but for some reason this year I have yet to feel even the slightest interest in all of the holiday stuff. I think the longer I’m Catholic, the more I tend to hesitate to do all of the “Martha Stewartish” stuff I used to love so much in early December.
How about you? Have you finished your shopping, sent your cards, and trimmed your tree? Or are you a decorating dud like me - someone who is content for the time being with a violet candle and a heart full of anticipation?
