Doing the Right Thing

Small Successes vol. 79

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.

To participate, just write up a list of 3 of your recent Small Successes and post it on your blog along with the Small Successes button (go here to get the code). You are not required to use the button, but please do link back to the main post here. Then you can add your blog here using the Mr. Linky form (please link to the individual blog post, not the home page of your blog).

If you don’t have a blog, you can share your Small Successes in the comments.

To get us started, here are my small successes for this week:

1. I am surviving drama camp. Every day, after the gang leaves, I collapse in exhaustion (What is it about this that I find so tiring?) but it is going very well and the kids are really enjoying it.

2. I have! A new! Washing machine! Wheeee! grin Doing loads to make up for lost time.

3. I ordered checks. I ask you, is there anything more annoying than running out of checks? And is there anything more difficult to remember than to order the darn things? Now if only I could get organized enough to pay all our bills online and get rid of checks altogether ...

Now it’s your turn! Please share all the small but significant ways you’ve done the right thing this week.

GOOD Job Danielle! You have just reminded me to WRITE a check, and I dislike when I forget to write them! ACK!

So, wonderful list, and thanks for the reminder! Much love!

1. Sat with a friend in need last week.
2. Spent extra time with family sadden by her news.
3. Picked Flowers at the farm yesterday not just veggies. Decorated. Me.

(4. One more—brought nice clothes I don’t wear anymore but couldn’t give away to a consignment shop. Won’t pay for the washer but will help with groceries.)

Bless you, Mary B.  I am certain your compassion was a blessing to your friends and family.

Danielle, Congratulations on a new washer.  I know the thrill will be gone soon, but it’s so nice to have these things to make life easier!

1.  I have maintained two new tasks for my morning and evening routines to help maintain the bathrooms on a daily basis so that little messes don’t add up to big ones!

2.  This morning I successfully diverted my four-year-old from his foul mood and tantrum because his Dad had poured the milk on his cereal and he didn’t get to do it “by myself”.  We had a tight schedule this morning and all of us needed to be out the door in a timely way so this meltdown had the real potential to spiral downward fast for all of us!  Incidents such as this have derailed many a morning and resulted in all of us leaving the house frustrated.  But I kept my composure, didn’t match his emotion, gently set a firm limit and walked away!  Lo and behold my little guy was soon getting himself dressed, offering to “make” his bed and even ate the breakfast that was so “offensive”.  I could then lavish on the praise with a “way to save the day” high five smile

3)  I made an appointment for a long overdue cut and color!

Pat - Good for you on the second item. That is a true challenge and a true victory.

Thanks!  It was such a good feeling to see him respond so positively.

I love the “breathless excitement” phrasing of Success #2.  And by the way, I am! Thrilled! To be participating! In “Small Successes”!

Danielle, thanks for starting this, it will be great fun, I am looking forward to Thursdays.

1. Went to the gym three times so far this week.
2.  Didn’t stick my nose into my Mom’s business in an important matter.
3.  Remembered to get my Aunt’s phone number so I can call her often.  She lost her husband very suddenly on Sunday, after we had just seen them the day before at our family reunion.
