What a sweet video! That is one loved little boy! My little sister has Down Syndrome, and you are absolutely right - it is such an honor and a joy to be her big sister. I truly believe that she is my family’s angel. What a blessing!

What an awesome video!  Our 6 children & I were all crowded around the computer oohing & aahing right along with the family of little Frankie…what a precious little boy & how blessed he is by such love from his family!

I think I’ve shared this story before that my father once told me.  When he was growing up (before the days of children with special needs being institutionalized or “eliminated” by prenatal testing)...he was taught that when you were in the presence of such a child (or adult), you would make the Sign of the Cross because it was presumed that this individual was without (personal) sin, blessed in a special way, & nearer to God that the rest of us.  I think that is beautiful.

I love that! And it’s true!

Oh so beautiful!  My son doesn’t have DS, but another chromosome disorder.  One day my dad said, “How’s our little saint doing?”.  It dawned on me that is exactly what he is.  He’ll NEVER sin (he’s very handicapped) and is pure.  I AM the mother of a saint!

Patricia, that is true, my daughter Christina who has Down syndrome made her First Holy Communion last year without the need for confession, she will always be without sin. What a blessing she is to our family, she is pure love, wonder, joy and compassion.

I wrote this article for Down syndrome Awareness Month over at the National Catholic Register http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/the-fight-to-eliminate-down-syndrome-eugenics-at-work/ and am releasing my book; A Special Mother is Born (but it at my blog by the same name) which has 34 stories by Catholic parents of special needs children who share how God has blessed them through their children. Contributors include former Senator Rick Santorum, children’s author Melissa Wiley, Barb Curtis and syndicated columnist Lisa “Jelly Mom” Barker. Come over to A Special Mother is Born blog to see why Theresa Thomas, Patti McGuire Armstrong, Pat Gohn,  and Lisa Hendey recommend it.

What a PERFECT cheesy grin. So lovable!

It reminds me of Chesterton saying that maybe the sun rises every day, not because of physical laws, but because God, like a little child, keeps saying, “Do it again!”

What a beautiful child!!! And what a beautiful family!!!

The godfather of my second son has a DD with a trisomy disorder—he once spoke at our church about it and said K is a very special blessing, despite the hard work—and when he looks at her he knows she wiill be in heaven (she is very disabled and will never be at “the age of reason”) and that makes him work harder so he can be there with her. He said it was a delight to be the father of a living saint.

This little saint is so, so sweet. Look at the delight he brings to his family, and vice versa!

Thank you Rachel for your help in spreading awareness!  Thanks for all the nice comments!  We sure love our little boy and we’re greatfull for the blessing he is to us.  He definitely helps us to stop-and-smell-the-roses!
