Entertaining Toddlers

I recently came across this list of toddler “keep busy” activities for when you want to keep a small child occupied and out of trouble for a while.
Some of them look like they might work, but others of them (Hello? Filling a Ziploc bag with squishy, staining materials and handing it to a preschooler?) give this mom heart failure.
I thought it might be fun to come up with our own list of toddler keep-busy activities.
Here are a couple of my favorites:
Sand and Water
Our kiddie-sized sandbox had become so boring, our little kids never even noticed it anymore. Until we left the cover off during a rainstorm, that is. Now there’s a soppy, sloppy mess out there that to Raphael and Daniel is a little slice of heaven on earth. I only let them play in it at certain times, preferably in their bathing suits. It’s located right outside my front window for easy supervision and it keeps them happily occupied for hours.
Categorized Toys
A giant toy box filled with random gizmos is boring. But a plastic container filled with matchbox cars, a basket filled with small plastic animals, or a box full of rubber balls is FUN waiting to happen. Take a few minutes to glean some treasures from your kids’ toy storage areas and your littles will be inspired to play.
How about you? What are your favorite, easy “keep busy” activities for little ones?
