Fast for Haiti

I know we’ve all been watching in horror at what’s happening in Haiti. I know we’ve all been praying for the victims, and thinking about other ways we can help.
In case you’re still looking for a way to help, here’s an idea: Fast for Haiti.
You may have seen this other places, but I thought it was worth posting here as well. As Christians we’re well aware of the power of prayer and fasting together, and this adds another dimension by suggesting that you fast, then give the amount you would have spent on food to the Haiti relief efforts.
For most people this will, obviously, mean small amounts of money. But even $5 will help, and $5 is barely more than the cost of a latte from Starbucks.
There are, of course, many families in the US who are truly too poor to spare any money. I trust that - as our Lord asks each to give according to his means - the prayers of those families will be made even more efficacious by their fasting.
You can read more about Fast for Haiti on their website, and you can join the cause on Facebook and follow it on Twitter.
If you’re looking for a charity to which to donate, I’d like to suggest Food for the Poor, which is doing updates and taking a special collection to help the people of Haiti. Food for the Poor is a Christian charity that does relief work in the Caribbean and Latin America, and 98% of the money they collect goes directly to help the hungry.
If you’d like to suggest a charity to which people might donate, please share it in the comments.
