F&F Looks Good on Any Screen

Just when you thought it wasn’t possible for Lisa Hendey to get any geekier than she already is, I’ve gone and done it. Actually, my husband did it for me! On Sunday night, after my weekend book tour with my mom (four cities, four bookstores in four days), he and the boys presented me with my Mother’s Day/Early Birthday gift - a new iPad. I guess he’s heard all of the hints I’ve been dropping for the past few months and couldn’t stand being around me another minute if I wouldn’t shut up about how badly I needed/wanted/couldn’t live without this latest and greatest tech toy.
Even though I said I wouldn’t fall prey to Apple’s slick marketing campaign or my personal sin of envy and greed (for gadgets), I have not-so-secretly wanted an iPad since I first saw Steve Jobs announce the new tablet device. Greg and I both knew it was only a matter of time… so he just helped me along a bit.
Since unboxing my iPad on Sunday night, I have been discovering the many ways in which its design beats my iPhone. For bloggers, it makes mobile blogging much more pleasant than typing on the iPhone’s small screen.
I’m discovering all of the cool new iPad apps and hope to begin reviewing them for you soon. At this point, most appear to be the regular iPhone apps that you can double in size - not a great thing, so I’m hoping that more iPad specific apps are coming soon. A few of my initial favorites are the Kindle, Netflix, Google, and NPR apps.
I hope we get more specifically Catholic iPad apps soon - for now, a search for “Catholic” iPad apps yields only seven responses and only one of them is a free app. Friends have raved about the Universalis Liturgy of the Hours app, but I am hesitant to pay $24.99 for this tool, although I’m certain it’s wonderful.
So stay tuned - I’ll be geeking out regularly here on the blog, letting you know if the iPad is really all it’s cracked up to be. In the mean time, if you have great app recommendations or simply want to remind me that I need a trip to confession very soon to repent of my greedy, tech desiring ways, I’d love to hear from you!
