Just went to check it out and would love an invite! They are still saying that space is limited at the moment…
Not sure how easy it is to navigate but it’s definitely got me excited about having my picasa albums, blog, and social network all in the same platform, as well as connect with different ‘groups’ of people; I feel like I’m drowning in the FB world lately.
If I decide to use Google+ it will be to replace FB and I would not use both. My reservations about Google+ is the fact that anyone can see your photo albums. Well, not everyone, but people you don’t know has access to them…when you share them with someone then all of their “friends” are able to see them. Also, I hate all the pro-gay commercials Google has running in our neck of the woods and am not sure I want to continue to support them by using their products.
I noticed the same thing, but after I signed up. More importantly, if you use PicasaWeb (Google’s photo storage) to store photos, any time you tag someone in a photo, it will notify that person on Google+, enabling them to see all your photos and share your album. I’m rather disappointed that I can no longer use PicasaWeb for private storage and backup.
I do not use FB but I just joined Google+ yesterday. I don’t have any friends yet, but after reading this I looked you up and added you. I don’t know enough about it to know what the difference is between friends and acquaintances is. In fact, I don’t know much about it at all, so when I had a chance to join I did.
I just joined yesterday. I think it will be a lot more useful once more people join! lol My profile is at https://plus.google.com/108392361827199040852, ya’ll should add me!
I’m really excited about the circles feature. I have a pretty diverse set of friends and I know that my Catholic friends aren’t necessarily interested in knitting or video games, and vice versa. It will be really nice to be able to share things without worrying that I’m bothering people with posts they don’t care about.
Hi Lisa,
If you have any invites left, I’m certainly game. I’m usually about the last person on earth to try something new with tech. This time I’d like to be less tardy. Thanks.
Hi everyone! I just sent invitations to all who requested them. If I missed you, please post another comment below this one of mine. Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you there!
I am still not sure WHY (as in having a good reason to take such action) I would sign up for google +. What I read others saying is that it would be on the hope (as in unproven, therefore no good reason) that it is better than facebook, which I see others admit has privacy issues. I have few friends on facebook precisely because I started receiving mail I felt no need to read—I don’t need to read about others daily activities—nor do I need to read others’ casual comments to each other. I feel it eats up the precious gift of time in this life and I am uncomfortable with the lost privacy. The fluidity of FB and G+ boundaries has to have an impact on the individual and society. The idea that others are “watching me”—people with whom I do not have a personal relationship, sounds like being “famous” to me—something I do not desire. I am not saying “bad” or “good”—I am saying possibly “imprudent” or “impulsive”; i.e. a deliberate act that has not been deliberated
I am not on facebook, I don’t twitter and I won’t be trying out google+. I really don’t get this draw to social networking. I think I respect my privacy too much to get involved with these things. Also, the interactions seem rather self-absorbing and shallow although I am sure many would disagree. I guess I am one of the very few that think this way. It just doesn’t make much sense to me. I don’t get it.
I didn’t get it either until I very reluctantly joined Facebook 2.5 years ago. There’s still a lot of it that I don’t bother with (the games, for example). What I like about it is that it is a quick way for me to keep in touch with people, share pictures, etc. It’s kind of like a one-stop shopping. I did close my account (temporarily) once because I thought I was spending too much time on it. Once I re-opened my account, I tried to limit my friends list, but it’s creeping up again. But, the amount of time I spend on it is definitely less time consuming than if I had to share photos and send individual emails to all the people that I keep in touch with on Facebook. As far as the privacy issue, I have selected the most secure settings possible, and I try to avoid things like advertising that we’re going out of town, etc.
Thank You Lisa!
I haven’t had a moment to sit and check it out. What I see at a glance is nice. Nice way to organize comments.
I think I’m connected to you. I am not exactly sure how to connect people, but once of these evenings when I have lots of energy after my kids are down, I’ll check it out. Ha!
Sounds like a nice new change, but I’m personally not a big fan of Google as they have a ton of employees following all of your surfing while you use Google. This way they can target you on your likes and dislikes and sell to other companies via internet, mail, etc. I usually don’t utilize Google. Check out this article http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/jul/13/google-social-net-is-about-preserving-leadership/.

My hope is that eventually enough people will migrate over to Google+ that I will be able to drop FB!! My favorite feature so far is the ability to share Picasa photo albums…I love the thought of uploading my pictures once to a service that allows me to also download them wherever I like in .zip format. And since Picasa is already connected to my blogger account and my email I could actually have all my photos in one place.
I’m also hopeful that Google+ will avoid some of the privacy problems and security problems that FB has had. Obviously without the apps function there are a lot of things I can currently do on FB that I wouldn’t be able to on Google+....but then I don’t use many apps anyway since they are usually third party and not especially trustworthy!
I would love to drop FB as well. Google’s privacy is better (still not perfect, I read they still own all your photos as FB does). I am on there but haven’t had time to check it out as w are in the middle of moving!
