No question, just had to share the satisfaction I got today washing the floors of my front hallway and kitchen - on my hands and knees.  There seemed something very penitential about doing this, and yet so very fun actually.

smile

Excellent!  I agree, I rarely wash them on my hands and knees.  When I do, they look so much cleaner!  I actually get into the corners and that little one inch space between things!  Maybe a good Lent project smile

Well done! I think I should try it too smile I’m sure they would look much cleaner smile

Sometimes Swiffer is just not good enough.  I derive great satisfaction from cleaning on my hands and knees as well.  I feel like I really “know” my floor that way and can find problems before they really get big ... like that little “bubble” in the linoleum that we should investigate before it becomes a bigger issue.

Hahaha! I couldn’t agree more! I actually don’t like Swiffer except for quicky clean ups in between major washing of the floor. When we moved into this house, my angelic sister-in-law scrubbed my floor with soft scrub and it sparkled! I am definately going to do this for spring cleaning!! :D

To each his own. . .

Sunny,
I’m sure Kimberlie didn’t get direction from a priest or book specifically about getting on her hands and knees to scrub the floor.  However, as I’m sure you’re aware, there are plenty of instances in the lives of saints where they practiced mortifications as penance, or where they committed everyday tasks with some kind of unusually excellent attention just for the sake of giving extra glory to our Lord.

For instance, I just put away a box of Pop Tarts after giving one to my kid (and eating the other one in the little sleeve, you know, just so no one else would have to be subjected to an already-open and less fresh pop tart wink ) and I made a small sacrifice of not opening and eating yet another pop tart.  Surely this small act is benefitting my spiritual growth, or at least giving a little more glory to God out of my lousy life today!

And then I remember a book about Mother Teresa of Calcutta, where she was on a tour of a facility that her order ran, and her reaction to the toilet stalls, which were particularly clean, was, “Someone must love our Lord a great deal!”  I think of this now every time I clean my toilets, and it does help me take that extra step to really get them clean and not succumb to my general bitterness toward cleaning toilets.

I hope that you will join me in sharing Kimberlie’s joy in discovering the consolations our Lord can give us in doing mundane tasks for His glory.
