Happy Birthday, Mary!

During last week’s podcast the topic of how to observe today’s feast, The Birth of Mary, came up.
My answer was my usual answer to feast days: cake!
Since birthdays can be an occasion to sing people’s praises and let them know how much we appreciate them, I thought it might be neat to share stories of graces we’ve received through Mary’s intercession—even if we’re getting a late start here at 4:00pm EST.
I’ll get us started with two graces I’ve also described in a previous podcast.
When Dennis & I were first married, I moved into his condo at first. The purchase of our first house was contingent upon finding a renter for that condo, since the market wasn’t right for a sale at the time. We had trouble finding a renter, so entrusted that intention to Our Lady. It came right down to the wire, with the contract on our house set to expire—but then at 11:58 am, two minutes before the deadline—on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, someone signed and we were able to purchase our house.
Years later, we had a similar situation: our ability to move to our present home was contingent on the sale of our first home—and tons of people came to look, but no one made an offer. We were talking about it, a wee bit discouraged, when I suddenly had an inspiration and said to Dennis, “Don’t worry, someone will buy it. But it will be on the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.” I don’t know what made me say it; I’m not the mystical type. It was just an intuition. And sure enough, someone bought the house on December 12th.
How about you? It needn’t be dramatic, just a little tribute to Our Lady on her birthday.
