Great to hear a guy connecting with Austen. In my single days, my litmus test for all suitors was whether the guy could sit through (and enjoy) the movie version of “Sense and Sensibility.” (Hey, those dudes got off easy—it could have been the six-hour “Pride and Prejudice.” )
Any guy who wants to attract the ladies should become fluent with Austen. Too bad more men don’t realize that.
As the Georgians would say, “prodigious!”

Great article! thanks for sharing it. Doesn’t it seem as if there is a whole new genre of books about books - David Denby was it on Proust? and now this fellow writing about Jane. Hmm. Perhaps I have a book in me about how I learned to be an “Excellent Woman” by reading the works of Barbara Pym!
