Letters to God

Last week, while the Facebook breast cancer “game” was all the rage, I had the opportunity to see a screening of the new movie Letters to God. It’s honestly one of the most inspirational films I’ve seen in a long time! The film tells the story of a little boy battling a serious form of cancer. As the movie’s website shares, this film is about more than simple entertainment:
Letters to God is not just a movie it is a mission—a mission to show people that through prayer and love, hope is spread. In the movie a little boy dealing with cancer writes letters to God. These letters spread hope to his friends and family. Our hope is that through Letters to God, people will be inspired to reach out to God in their own way and find the strength to provide hope to those around them. Cancer devastates the lives of so many people … the people who have the disease and the people who love and care for them. The resources below (listed on the website) can provide good support and information, but it’s through your own “Letters to God” that you will find hope. Hope is contagious. Help us spread the word.
As I shared in a recent blog post on my site, I’m all for raising awareness about cancer—my own non-invasive breast cancer was discovered last year through the grace of a mammogram—but I’d also like to see us truly minister to families impacted by cancer in a REAL way. Watching Letters to God will encourage not only to do this, but also to look at your own relationship with God. Be forewarned: it’s a tearjerker! The man sitting next to me was sniffling out loud! Also, this film is inherently Christian at its core—not Catholic, but it contains nothing that would be offensive to Catholics in any way. The message of the film, the inspiration and hope it provides, and the story it tells can and will make a difference if we help spread the word about it. Find out about screenings for Church leaders at the Letters to God website and encourage your church to get involved.
