Married With the Swine Flu

Due to our family’s circumstances this past winter, I’ve thought about illness a lot more than usual. How to get through it, how to avoid it… and how much to adjust our lives in order to deal with and avoid it.
I tend to be one of those people who likes to drop everything and hole up at home when our family is sick. But that’s not always possible, or practical.
Today I came across this story of a couple who both contracted swine flu right before their wedding. Taking precautions, they decided to go ahead with it anyway.
I’m sure they weren’t thrilled with the circumstances, but I kind of like the picture of them taking their vows with face masks on. It certainly proves that they take the “in sickness and in health” part of the vows seriously, anyway!
Postponing a wedding is a much bigger deal than canceling a play date, and I’m not sure what I’d do if I found myself ill right before such a big event in my life. I think maybe I’d do exactly what the couple in the story did - go ahead with the ceremony, but wear masks and gloves and not get too close to my guests.
If I was meant to be a guest at a wedding and the bride and groom came down with swine flu, though, I’m not sure I’d have the guts to go.
What about you? What do you think you’d do if you were the bride or groom in that situation? If you were invited to the wedding?
