Mass Confusion

An awesome new show for Catholic families!

This year on Thanksgiving, CatholicTV pioneered a new form of entertainment for our families—the Catholic sitcom! Mass Confusion stars Greg and Jennifer Willits and Mac and Katherine Barron, who come together for a project that is hilarious, family friendly and—frankly—a great departure from what normally fills the airwaves these days. I encourage you to take thirty minutes, put your feet up and enjoy watching the video of the pilot. We’re hoping for over a million views for Mass Confusion to show that Catholic families need and will support quality entertainment. Enjoy!

It was a fun program!  I hope this show takes off and inspires others!

Barb, I agree—I would just love to see a full series! Thanks for watching!

I so wanted to love this sitcom, but I didn’t. Those women weren’t very nice to each other if they were suppose to be friends. I don’t think this was a true portrayal of family friends sharing in a big birthday. Some it was comical but it really didn’t hit the mark. I may have expected to much from a pilot but I wouldn’t watch or recommend it. I think the guys were trying too hard to ‘act’ like men. How long were those couples married to each other??? My husband would known I wouldn’t want beer but wine and he would have bought it for me w/out telling. It has the potential to become a good sitcom but needs work if it really wants to market to a mass audience.

Ditto what you said, Joyce! It was so “blah”, for lack of a better word.

I have to agree, too forced/stilted.  I would like to see a show like this if it was more relaxed and not seeming to try so hard to make a point.

@Joyce, Kim, and Maureen - Thanks for your honest opinions regarding the sitcom pilot! Again, this was an experiment (i.e., “Could it be done), along with a question (“is this kind of content even wanted?).  This was a new endeavor for all involved, and while we never claimed to be professional writers or actors, we certainly understand your dissatisfaction.  Fortunately, many others have been happy with the initiative.  If this is something you’d like to see others attempt, though, and if you think Catholic-friendly entertainment is needed, your prayers would be greatly appreciated.  Again, thanks for your honesty.

Greg,
I like the concept, just think it’s too predictable inthe pilot.  I’d encourage you to continue to flesh it out more and maybe get other groups to view/critique it. (Like mens’ & womens’ Bible study groups or KofC’s or Legion of Mary groups to get a broader input.

I’m glad Greg chimed in as I was wondering how to respond to your feedback. I know that the producers will appreciate all feedback, both good and productive criticism, that will help them to continue to improve upon the concept if they are able to move forward. I remain a huge fan of Mass Confusion and am personally praying for the series to move forward and impact families around the country.

Hi Greg!
I just wanted to say how happy I am that you are working to put together some great and much needed, wanted, Catholic based entertainment!  I was sort of hesitant to watch, as my life with four little ones is pretty crazy and short on free time!  However, I found myself relaxing and laughing a lot!  I thought the parts with the husbands talking were really funny because it was so much like what my hubby and my girlfriends hubby talk like when they’re teasing us!  I thought the women interactions were a bit forced, but still cute.  I would love to see some more bonding happen.  I know it would be difficult, but I would love to see kid interactions both kid to kid, and parent with child.  I know that every day in my house I think how cute things they do are, and how sweet they can be and I’m sure it’s the same at your home!

What I most loved about this show was that I can utterly relate to it!  I’ve never been able to say that ever before about a show on TV!

Be encouraged!  You are doing something that has the potential to really be a positive thing for people, and could inspire others to both understand and want to emulate this way of life.  Here in Oregon, we need this sort of programing in a huge way!
God Bless you and your families!
Melita~

I enjoyed this.  I agree with those who said it was a bit mainstream-y… but having the couples fit into “typical molds” let screentime focus on plot rather than character development… in otherwords, yeah, everyone was a bit predictable in how they interacted, but in a way that lets viewers enjoy the birthday party / possible pregnancy / beer run plot and humor along the way.  I will just add that these characters are nothing like my husband and I (he’s not the jammin-in-the-car type & I’m the “homeschool mom” those ladies were hoping not to become!) but this movie still left me with the feeling that these were families I would enjoy knowing.  Who watches comedies and comes away with that feeling these days?!  So, nice job.

P.S. ~ It was mentioned that the two families were friends because they both had so many boys.  This means the moms may not have “clicked” but still got together because their kids had fun together—that is very true-to-life for me.  We moms can put up with a lot of different mom-personalities if our kids are having a good time with their kids, I think!  So I respectfully disagree with the commenter who sighted the two moms’ interactions as not so realistic.

I loved the show!! I hope they make more of them. I am a huge fan of both families. I really wish I could get Catholic TV on my Roku so I don’t have to watch on the computer.  I would love to see this become a weekly show! We are sure to tune in.

You know what I loved about this?  The ending.  No preachy message / conversation to “make a point,” just lighthearted.  These characters were Catholic and just had the kind of conversation any of us could have had with our friends… they didn’t preach at each other or make the “Catholic” too obvious.  But you knew they were trying to live Catholic lives.  Also it was not melodramatic—I loved that!  The characters were really normal.  I found myself asking, “So when can I have these families over to dinner?”

@Greg~I will pray for Mass Confusion~I hope that it evolves into a great sitcom that EVERYONE~not just Catholics~would want to watch. I would love for a Catholic show that relates to real Catholic families be available.

@jen~not to be rude, but I could never have anyone over if I thought they’d go through my bathroom garbage.

I really liked it! There were parts that didn’t come off as well as they could, but I loved that I actually laughed out loud 3 times! That says something!  The editing is pretty good, I think the style is appropriate, and I think if the actors were able to smooth out some of the forced parts, this could be really good. I want to see another episode.  Is there one? And BTW, the kids weren’t really as loud as I thought they could be.  wink  My favorite part was at the liquor store.  “If I could, I would hit you right now!”  HA!  “You and your son have a lot more in common then I thought!” HA!  I think with some tighter edits on this show, it would take some of the forced feeling out of it…  I used to be an editor…  sorry for being picky. smile You’ve got something here!

I loved the part with flashes between the confessional, with her saying, “It wasn’t a big deal,” him saying, “It was a big deal,” and flashes of frantic housecleaning in between.  I can relate to that.

Also loved the beer run with the kids—too funny.

I enjoyed it and plan to watch more.  I wish we had Catholic TV locally, but I’ll watch it online until then. smile

“I’m a history teacher and I don’t even know where that is!!!”  LOL
I also loved the part where the guys go in carrying the toddlers and come right back out.  LOL

I thought it was pretty good - at least it has potential.  The only part that really seemed clueless was that it was the quietest house of 8 kids I have ever seen.  My house with 2 kids is 100 times that loud and busy and my kids are not even as active as average boys.  I really liked that it addressed the topic of homeschooling since in “official” Catholic channels (on the episcopal level) it is not acknowledged.

I really enjoyed it!  I am a newlywed, no children, but I found it cute.  The pacing, filming and feel reminded me of Modern Family - though certainly not the content.  I was also thrilled to be able to watch it in Canada.
Blessings to you, and thank you for a really enjoyable programme!

I loved it and could relate to several subtle moments like the kids getting out of the van before you can unbuckle the baby.  I also didn’t expect this to be as polished as some people apparently did.  Anything that can make me laugh out loud, relate to the characters and make be feel proud to be Catholic is worth watching in my world.  Thanks for taking the risk of putting yourselves out there for our enjoyment!

This was fun to watch, make more! If you could make something like this work it would be such a blessing to so many.  Please don’t get discouraged and keep at it!
