Meet Philly's New Archbishop

he'll make Danielle happy

As Lisa indicated obliquely yesterday, the Pope has appointed a new archbishop of Philadelphia: Archbishop Chaput.

Here’s an interview he granted to John Allen about the appointment. I think you’ll find it interesting on many fronts, but here’s what’s really relevant for a certain blogmistress.

I’m going to have to become a Phillies fan, and an Eagles fan, and everything else in Philadelphia. I genuinely mean that, because I think it’s important for the bishop to embrace the sports teams that his people embrace. But I want you to know that all the time I’ve been a Broncos fan, I’ve secretly been a Steelers fan … I hope that doesn’t get me into trouble in Philadelphia!

I’m an old Pittsburgh guy. I was there for three Super Bowls that the Steelers won, and that made a permanent impression on me. Secretly, where it has to be hidden, I’m a Steelers fan, but I also want to embrace the local community.

Priorities!

LOVE it! Passing this along to my Steeler fan husband now ...

My husband just posted his article covering this morning’s press conference at the Register:

http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/archbishop-charles-chaput-takes-the-helm-in-philadelphia/

Catholic high school students presented him not only with Philly snack foods, but also with an Eagles T-shirt and a Phillies cap.

While we’re not in his diocese, I’m excited to see the impact his leadership will bring to the region.

This Packers fan even finds this . . . what was the phrase Simcha used over at NCRegister that I found so clever . . . devastatingly adorable!

:(  He’s been our Archbishop for many years…he’s absolutely wonderful and will be missed in CO!  Philadelphia, you’re getting a gem.

So tickled to have Chaput, here in Philly.  My heart has been so overwhelmed with the latest news of the last scandal.  Thank the Lord for giving us what we need…New Leadership!

God is so good!

We’re very excited here in Philly!  So excited, we’ll try to ignore that whole crazy Steelers statement…. smile

This is good news.  I don’t live in that area anymore (grew up about an hour from Philly in NJ), but I know what wonderful things Archbishop Chaput has done in CO, so it will be exciting to watch how his gifts are manifested in Philly.

Thanks for the link to John Allen’s interview! I hadn’t seen it and really enjoyed reading it.

SO sad to have him leave us here in the Archdiocese of Denver. I know the Lord needs him in Philly, so I am working to get over my selfishness!
