Missing Anyone?

President Obama signed an Executive Order creating a White House Council on Women & Girls today.
We’ll have our different views about the necessity of such a council, but an elected President is entitled to focus on his issues, and the goals as stated are laudable. There are several goals, but one main focus:
the critical work of the Council will be to help build healthy families and improve women’s health care.
We’re told
the White House Council on Women and Girls will meet regularly, and will serve as a forum for all involved agencies to focus on women.
I think that means its purpose will be to be sure every agency of the government will be pushing, among other things, healthy families and women’s health.
Which would be fine, except…. Well, here’s the list of specially invited witnesses of the signing (at the bottom of the story). In addition to many female members of Congress these names caught my eye:
Susan A. Cohen, Guttmacher Institute
Dr. Nina Fedoroff
Kim Gandy, NOW
Irasema Garza, Legal Momentum
Helene Gayle, CARE USA
Judy Gold, Chair, Women’s Policy Council, Obama for America
Heidi Hartmann, Institute for Women’s Policy Research
Dr. Dorothy Height
Silvia Henriquez, National Latina Reproductive Health Institute
Nancy Keenan, NARAL
Mara Keisling, National Center for Transgender Equality
Kitty Kolbert, People for the American Way
Joan A. Kuriansky, WOW
Ann Lewis
Ellen Malcolm, Emily’s List
Kate Michelman
Darlene Nipper, Gay and Lesbian Task Force
Laurie Rubiner, Planned Parenthood
Vicki Saporta, National Abortion Federation
Susan Scanlan, National Council of Women’s Organizations
Ellie Smeal, Feminist Majority Foundation
Raise your hand if you think you know what “women’s health” means?
