Natural Family Planning Awareness Week

Around here, we celebrate Natural Family Planning every week with our Coffee Talk! But this is a special week for discussing the topic, since the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has called this “Natural Family Planning Awareness Week”.
The timing of this celebration is intentional. According to the USCCB website, “The dates of Natural Family Planning Awareness Week highlight the anniversary of the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25) which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood. The dates also mark the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne (July 26), the parents of the Blessed Mother.”
Over at the site, you’ll find terrific resources for celebrating the beauty of NFP in your home or parish, including articles and prayers. If NFP is a difficult topic in your home or not a part of your life, this might be the perfect week to seek instruction, counseling, or have a conversation with your husband. Many parishes around the country will be providing extra resources this week.
I’d like to take this occasion to thank all of you who participate here on Faith & Family Live for the tremendous witness you give me each day about not only NFP, but the entire vocation of being a Catholic Mom. It’s not always an easy thing to live according to the Church’s teachings and God’s will for our lives, but you do so every day with grace and courage. Thanks for your witness and happy NFP Week!
