Our First Time Hosting Thanksgiving

For as long as I can remember, my mother has cooked Thanksgiving dinner for our family. She does an excellent (and delicious!) job, too.
But this year my parents are in the process of moving out of the house where they’ve lived for a quarter of a century. My mom’s got enough on her mind, so my sister and I volunteered to cook and host Thanksgiving.
We’re excited about it; we both love to cook and get joy out of feeding people, so this celebration is right up our alley. We’re using a mixture of family standby recipes and new ones, which will keep it interesting. And we’ll only be serving eleven adults, two preschoolers, and two babies, so we don’t have to make a staggering amount of food.
(We’ll probably end up making a staggering amount anyway, but we don’t HAVE to, so it takes some pressure off.)
I’m looking forward to using my good china and to sitting down with my family to a meal I’ve put lots of love into. I do know, however, that there are going to be hiccups. My sister and I have never done this before! No way is it going to be perfect the first time.
For all of you more experienced holiday hostesses out there: do you remember your first time cooking for Thanksgiving? Do you have any good stories? Do you have any advice from which my sister and I might benefit?
