Peace and Joy

This morning I loaded up two-year-old Henry to do our Thanksgiving shopping. We had to hit two stores—the mega-warehouse followed by our regular grocers.
By the time I neared the wholesale club, I could see the parking lot was already near-capacity. Only the very furthest spaces were still available and I started chiding myself for getting such a late start.
I took a deep breath and decided to say a little prayer. I asked God for good behavior from Henry and patience for myself and that whatever craziness awaited me inside the store, that I would have the peace to handle it. Also (shooting the moon), I prayed for a really good parking space. Normally I don’t mind walking, but drizzling rain + toddler + pregnant me meant the closer the better.
As I headed down one row (headed for what was sure to be the very furthest spot back) a car pulled out—from the very first parking space, the one closest to the store! I unloaded Henry, still reeling from my good fortune and headed inside, where I zipped through every aisle and had to wait for no one when it was time to check out. There were tons of people, but everything went like clockwork.
The lesson I learned: remember to say a little prayer. Maybe it won’t always be as smooth sailing as this, but God certainly hears our cries!
Here’s to peaceful preparations all throughout this week! Cheers!
