Peace for Weary Travelers

Expecting house guests this weekend for Christmas? Or later this season?
Most likely, they’ve come a long way to spend some time with your family, and most likely they’re pretty fried by the time they’ve braved traffic, airports, or weather. How can you make their arrival more peaceful? A few last-minute reminders and simple ideas …
1. Greet them at the door with as many luggage carriers as your house can muster. No one — no one — likes to carry bags into the house when they emerge from hours of traveling.
2. Light some candles. In the entry way. In the bathroom. In their bedroom. It’s a no-brainer in peace and contentment circles.
3. Have some cookies baking — or a meal ready. Nothing says, “Ahhh, rest and relaxation,” after a winter journey like some cozy food.
4. Light a fire in the fireplace. Enough said.
5. De-clutter and make things easy for guests to find. Here’s a fabulous rundown of ideas for making your house a “home away from home.”
6. Write up a simple note or poem, either by hand or on the computer. Put it in a frame on the night stand, in the guest bathroom, or perched on their bed. Here’s a little one I wrote that I’m happy to share:
WELCOME
May peace surround you while you’re here
And when you’re on your way.
Our home will be a better place
Because you’ve come to stay.
Other thoughts? How do YOU lovingly welcome your relatives and friends to your home at this time — or any time — of year?
