Just wanted to add that it’s not just gamers who are affected but people who use their PS3 to stream Netflix across the servers. I don’t know how much personal info. was compromised from that group but it is definitely affecting service.
PlayStation Protection

If you’ve got gamers in the house, I hope you’ve been paying attention to the recent Sony PlayStation debacle, where a security breach has resulted in the private information of the network’s 70+ million users being compromised.
Your family is impacted by this if you have a PlayStation that is connected to the PlayStation Network. If your kids simply use the game console to play offline, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. But if you (or your teens, using your information) created an account and paid for the service with a credit card, you need to be informing yourself about the details of the situation and taking steps to protect your identity.
Sony is providing regular updates on their blog and recently announced that it will provide free Identity Theft protection for all impacted users.
This situation is, unfortunately, a reminder to all of us that we need to be vigilant about protecting our credit and identity information. Assuming that all is well unless you’re informed otherwise can be a dangerous position to take, since you may not learn of violations or misuse of your information until it’s too late. Here’s a helpful resource to inform yourself on the basics.
I’m hoping that the PlayStation gamers will be back in business soon and that none of our families have been impacted by this theft. In the mean time, take your favorite gamer to the park, the beach or simply pull out the old Monopoly game and teach him about the way we used to play games when we were growing up!
