Pray for Yousef Nadarkhani

Iranian pastor to be executed for refusing to deny Christ

Today Christian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani will face an Iranian court and be asked for a fourth and final time to deny Christ and convert to Islam.

If he refuses, he’ll be sentenced to death for apostasy, probably within the week.

You can read more about his case here.

Meanwhile, we are asked to publicize his case to bring pressure on Iran to release him—and, of course, to pray for him and for the entire Christian community in Iran, which is suffering under brutal “crackdowns.”

The Speaker of the House just released a statement urging Iran to turn from this “dark path.”

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, for my family’s prayers and reflection. I teach my (older) children about martyrs. my 8 year old son has a special devotion to St. Thomas Moor, and we have read books and watched movies about him. My DS (age 8) will tell you he died because he knew what was right and would not do what was wrong. my 11 year old DD has a special place in her heart for St. Cecelia, and knows her story. I struggle when it comes to modern day martyrs (although I pray this man will not become one). Does anyone have any experience teaching this reality to children? I kind of find it hard to wrap my own brain around that in 2011 we are still facing this. Then comes the inevitable, with all of my Do estic Church activities, my devotion to the Church, my love of Christ, etc.,would I be willing to leave my children motherless if I were faced with a si liar situation? I am sad that I don’t have strong answer for that question. God Bless Nadarkhani.

May the Holy Spirit strengthen Yousef Nadarkhani!

We will be praying for him.

I want to know why our President is not joining Speaker Boehner in his efforts to condemn this unjust execution. I find this very sad, and am sorry to be political but it says something important about our current leadership. Yet one more reason to be involved and not sit on the sidelines in the whole political process. A respect for life is foundational to the Church and a civilized society. Prayers and grace to this courageous pastor. May God bless him and his family.

Thank you for posting this.  May God give Yousef comfort and strength. Prayers for his release, and for an end to the persecutions of Iranian christians.

Of course Obama isn’t going to say anything. He’s hardly a Christian-and certainly doesn’t act Christian. Some think he’s Muslim-or at least has Muslim roots so in my book he’s at least sympathetic to Muslims.

To its credit, the Obama administration denounced the initial sentence back in June, and released a timely denunciation shortly after I posted this—but I was away from the computer all weekend and couldn’t update!

Here’s the statement: http://tiny.cc/ki88f

Thanks Rebecca, would be nice to hear more from our President on this now that Nardarkhani is facing certain death, and now that he is being accused of rape (though none of the initial indictments detail this (new charge). He certainly spoke loudly and often about the hikers which were being held as spies. But thanks for clarifying.
