Precious Treasures

Last night, I spent a wonderful evening in the company of the moms ministry group at St. Clement Catholic Church here in Chicago. Twenty moms were able to rouse the energy and enthusiasm and take the evening off for my talk on “Self Care for Moms”. The parish has many wonderful ministries for young families, this one included. I was so impressed by the way in which this group of women encourages and supports one another in their commitment to being domestic church. It was a blessed time for me to share a few hours of talk about faith and family with them.
My sister Erin and I walked the twenty minutes home to her house after the event, chatting about what we had experienced and just enjoying one another. Those of you with sisters living nearby have my envy - I wish I lived close enough to Erin to have this type of time with her at least once per week!
When we arrived at home, we were greeted by the world’s cutest 3 year old, crashed out on the couch in an effort to wait up for a visit with us. Is there anything more precious than the site of a sleeping child? Tyler normally moves at 120 MPH these days, so the sight of him so still and so precious made me want to pause and thank God for these tiny moments of great joy in my life. During last night’s talk, we reflected upon the following quote from St. Gianna Beretta Molla:
“The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for all that he, in his goodness, sends to us day after day.”
Sometimes the challenge in life is thanking God for what He sends when it’s not necessarily what we had in mind! Yesterday, after time spent with a great group of moms, a nice walk and talk with my sister, and the site of my precious little nephew, it was easy to embrace St. Gianna’s secret to happiness!
