Here in the Boston area, I haven’t heard a peep about this in the news coverage all day.
President Meets With Catholic Press
Posted by Rebecca Teti in News on Thursday, July 02, 2009 5:41 PM
President Obama met with members of the Catholic press for about 40 minutes today.
Head on over to our sister site, NCRegister.com, for a series of posts on what they talked about. Our publisher, Fr. Owen Kearns, LC was present (you can see him in the foreground of this photo).
Items of particular interest might be the discussion of conscience protections and the President’s response to a question about finding common ground between the pro-life and pro-choice movements to reduce the incidence of abortion.
Mr.Obama acknowledged that his own view on abortion is incompatible with the Catholic one, but said:
I would be surprised if those who believe abortion should be legal would object to language that says we should try to reduce the circumstances in which women feel compelled to obtain an abortion. if they took that position, I would disagree with them. I don’t know any circumstances in which abortion is a happy circumstance or decision, and to the extent that we can help women avoid being confronted with a circumstance in which that’s even a consideration, I think that’s a good thing.
The session was in preparation for Mr. Obama’s scheduled meeting with the Pope July 10th.

I give the President a thumbs up for having this meeting. He knows how to spin his words to please the audience he is with, but I give him credit for reaching out. I don’t understand why he keeps SAYING he wants to make abortion rare, but still encourages Congress to push through bills to fund abortions ( didn’t the federal budget include funding abortions in DC?). How does reversing the Mexico City Policy make abortion rare? I am relieved to hear him say he believes in a “robust” conscience protection, but again I’ll believe it when I see it!
Below is a very small sample of the anti-life actions that Pres. Obama has taken since assuming the office of the presidency:

Sadly (but not surprisingly) spinning words is about all Pres. Obama does when it comes to his supposed support of the right to life. Make no mistake, this man is committed to pro-abortion policies & the “pro-choice” lobby.
I’ve put together a compilation of the questions asked by the various news organizations as well as the President’s responses. http://www.examiner.com/x-9452-DC-Catholic-Living-Examiner~y2009m7d3-President-Obama-speaks-to-the-Catholic-Press
