Pretty… Boys?

A college friend of mine came from a family of six girls followed by two boys.
She told me a story of a time her father came home and his son tripped into the room to meet him. He’d been playing dress-up with his sisters, and he was decked out in a skirt, heels, and jewelry: the whole dress-up package.
Apparently this kind of dress-up was a common occurrence in their home (with six girls, of course it was!) but her dad put his foot down when he saw his son joining in. He took him out right away to buy a cowboy outfit and some John Wayne movies and other things he considered appropriate for boys. No more cross-gender dress-up in his household!
I’ve never thought of my husband as being particularly fussy about gender-appropriateness, at least with little ones. He’s always been fine with pushing our son around in a pink stroller. (In fact, we’ve since acquired a blue stroller for Blaise, but he prefers the pink one, and Bryan will happily take him for a walk in it.)
But today, when I showed him the pictures of Blaise that we took this morning, even laid-back Bryan was kind of shocked. Obviously we would not take the baby out of the house in this get-up, but… when he insisted that we dress it him in it, my sister and I laughed and laughed. And we certainly weren’t going to pass up the photo opportunity.
What do you think? Isn’t this going to be a great way to embarrass the heck out of him in front of his prom date someday?

(Blaise really did pick out every piece of this outfit himself, from his sister’s drawer. He pushed each piece into my hands until I helped put it on him. What is this kid thinking?)
