Resolutions

For the past few years, I have done the Word Resolution approach for the New Year. Instead of a list of things I want to accomplish, I’ve embraced the idea of a word or phrase to guide me to a fresh start. I like this idea a lot, and in the past it’s been a perfect inspiration.
This year, I was especially against making a list of resolutions, mostly because I feel like I’m doing good managing a baby and a toddler and the four older boys. I really don’t want to heap upon my head an opportunity for failure. If my goal is to make it through the day happy and sane, that’s target a-plenty.
I’ve noticed, however, that these last few days have been more about maintaining and less about really shooting for the stars. Yes I realize that’s a wee bit melodramatic, but really isn’t it sometimes fun to go into the New Year with high hopes and impossible dreams? Isn’t that part of starting fresh—that we think about what we really want to accomplish and we set our mind to it?
I am also beginning to realize that sometimes, when you aim low, well that’s what you’ll get!
While I’m all for reality checks and having a handle on my life, I have noticed that in the midst of my crazy life, I want some personal goals. I want goals for me, and not just things about “maintaining sanity” and “keeping the house running smoothly.” I want to have FUN!
As such, I have decided, a mere 11 days into the year, that I am going to set some goals for myself. Nothing too crazy, but then again, maybe so. I’m thinking an exercise routine will be first on the list. And after that? Maybe COOKING? (A girl can shoot the moon, can’t she?). Or possibly becoming a master at Michael Jackson’s dancing game on the Wii.
What about you? Do you have anything wild and crazy in store for 2011? I hope so—let’s have some adventure shall we?
