Sacramental Lego

I was enchanted by this email from reader Becky Thomson, describing a special Lego project her husband worked on with their son as a gift to William, who is receiving his First Communion this year:
“I just had to tell you what my husband and kindergartener made for the First Holy Communion of our second grader, William. We have three boys (ages 10, 8 and 5) so hardly a day goes by when they aren’t playing Legos. They are constantly making new creations, and can spend hours building things and then destroy them in seconds, but, this one I am never going to let them take apart.
My husband thought it would be nice to create William’s First Holy Communion in Lego form. Our kindergartener was on the band-wagon right away and asked if he could make the “Father” (the priest) and he also reminded my husband to make an Easter candle too. The two meticulously found the pieces to create a beautiful scene complete with a replica of our son kneeling at the altar and the priest holding the Eucharist up for all to see. I thought it was brilliant.
It is a great memento that our son truly appreciated and even moreso, I was so proud of my husband and youngest son for thinking of such a thoughtful gift that only cost them a bit of bonding time. It was a beautiful way for my husband to demonstrate the importance of the sacrament through an avenue that our children can so easily relate to.”
Isn’t this just so sweet?
