Scan or Pat Down?

I’m scheduled to fly on Monday and am already dreading the long lines and crowds that I know will take place during the holiday week of travel. To make matters worse, everyone seems to be talking about the recent changes in TSA screening, the backscatter and millimeter wave scanning units, and the newly changed “pat down” procedures.
I unknowingly have been screened at least twice in recent memory by backscatter units - I didn’t realize at the time that they were very different from the older xray devices, aside from the fact that the screening process took longer. My fault, for not paying attention and doing my homework, and instead just following the rules without asking.
When I travel this week, I will likely opt to be screened by the backscatter unit in my local airport, rather than submitting to the pat down. I’ve been thinking about those traveling with small children, and was pleased to read about a modified screening protocol for those traveling with children twelve and under.
On one of my favorite podcasts, Catholic Pilot, my good friend Capt. Jeff takes on the controversy, offering travel tips and techniques for surviving holiday travel and addressing the recent TSA controversy from a calm and educated perspective.
How about you? Will you be traveling by air this week? Have you answered the “body scan vs. pat down?” question for yourself and your children? And if you were me, which would you choose?
