Soup for Supper

It all started with this box of soup I bought yesterday for dinner. Longtime readers will know I am the domestically-impaired member of the Faith & Family blogging team - along with being a lazy housekeeper, I’m a mess in the kitchen.
So for last night’s dinner, this box of soup caught my eye. For less than $3, I could heat it up, serve it along with our main dish and a crusty bread, and introduce something new to my family. I managed not to destroy the soup in the cooking process, and my boys loved it asked for more. Which led me this morning to the Imagine Foods website for a little exploration. It’s a nifty place, with lots of interactive features.
My favorite spot on the site is the Creation Lab, where you can actually build your own recipe by adding ingredients into a virtual stock pot. For beginning chefs like me, this virtual approach to putting together a soup is both fun and simple. When you’ve created your masterpiece, you can name it, save it and share it with others. I think you’re actually supposed to go ahead and cook it too… but I’m not certain I’ll ever get that far.
So my questions to you readers today are these: is it worth cooking soup from scratch when you can purchase pre-packaged soup and add in a few ingredients? What’s your favorite “soup for supper” recipe? Is there a brand of store-bought soup you prefer?
